The Trout Breeding Centre under the National Research and Development Centre for Riverine and Lake Fisheries (NRDCR&LF), Haa, prepared high-value rainbow trout products, smoked trout fillet and red caviar on December 14, 2025, marking a key step in value addition and product diversification in Bhutanโs cold-water aquaculture sector.
As part of the initiative, 10 kilograms of red caviar were produced from mature rainbow trout broodstock under strict hygienic and quality control standards. In addition, smoked trout fillets were prepared using standard techniques to enhance flavor, shelf life, and market appeal. These efforts highlight the centreโs commitment to promoting high-value livestock products, value addition, import substitution, and income generation through trout aquaculture
