Channa punctatus (Bloch, 1793)

Body very elongate, almost cylindrical anteriorly and somewhat compressed posteriorly, head large, mouth fairly large. Dorsal and anal fin based long, pelvic fin sub abdominal.

Diagnosis: Dorsal fin ray 28-33, anal 20-23, pectoral 15-18. Body elongated and fairly rounded in cross section. Pectoral fin extends to anal fin. Caudal fin rounded. Lateral line scales 37 – 40.
