Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822)

Genus: Labeo Cuvier

Dorsal fin with no spine, 10 – 12 branched rays in dorsal fin. Thick lower lip with deep post labial groove narrowly interrupted at isthmus. Upper lip separated from upper jaw.

Synony ms: Cyprinus rohita Hamilton, 1822; Rohita buchanani Valenciennes, 1842; Labeo horai Fowler, 1924.

Diagnosis: Dorsal fin rays 3-4/12-14, anal 2-3/5, pectoral 1/16-18. Body moderately elongated, eyes large, not visible from underside of head, mouth small and inferior, lips thick and fringed with a distinct inner fold. A pair of small maxillary barbell present, concealed with lateral groove

Distribution: Introduced in fish pond at Goenshari, Chhimipang, Darla, Tsangkha, Lhamoizhingkha, Gomtu, Sipsu, Tendu, Phuentsholing.

Altitude: 195 – 1318 MASL
